ABOUT ME

A SKETCH OF ME

I've been an artist since early age, with my first passion being natural history, and specifically, ornithology. I studied Humanities at university, and

this gave me experience in cultural and historical  Subjects, which influenced my art, and led me to discover a further interest in historical and urban landscapes. I set up my building history business, ThisSpotThen, in 2008, in which I research the history of particular buildings, and re-create historical views which had never been photographed. Since then, I've diversified further into portrait art, which has seen me undertake commissions for people, and their pets.

In my portraits, I draw from photographs, and work towards an extremely detailed rendering, sized either A4 or A3. I take extreme care over the tiniest of details, although I see myself as different from the 'photo-realistic' school of drawing in that I look to put artistic interpretation in the drawings, too. For example, I'll often draw long hair as a 'cascade' instead of a direct, strand-by-strand copy.

Ordering a portrait is simple: Just contact me here, or visit my Etsy shop, and we can arrange for you to send me a photo (actual or emailed). I'll get onto it immediately, and return any actual photos to you with the finished portrait.
